Legend has it that Triple Eight Race Engineering was a child prodigy born of the Racing Gods, cobbled out of the purest need for speed and a competitive edge with the sharpness of a samurai sword. Well, sorry to disappoint, but it was actually just an Irish guy who didn’t quite make it as a driver. Luckily that guy – you may know him as Roland Dane – has a business brain, as well as a love of anything on wheels, and from that Triple Eight was created, originally with three other partners and competing in the British Touring Car Championship. However, after dominating that series, the lure of the bumper-bashing, tyre-squealing adrenaline in V8 Supercars proved too great for RD and he bought a failing team in September 2003. Since then, Triple Eight has carved a name for itself in the history books, clocking up nine Teams Championships, eight Drivers titles and seven Bathurst 1000 wins.
