The final day of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup brought great weather and great racing to the streets of Surfers Paradise.

Another strong qualifying session saw both cars place in the top five ahead of the final Enduro race for the year.

With a wave of the green flag, Richo moved to the head of the pack, going from P3 to P1.

Dumbrell kept fantastic pace, securing himself in the top ten early on.

With a driver swap over after the mandatory laps, Craig and Jamie took to their Holden Commodores.

It was a colourful race to the finish line, with Lowndsey hot on the tail of P3 in the final laps. However it just wasn’t enough in the end, with Car #888 finishing in P4, narrowly missing the podium. JDub crossed the finish line and claimed P7.

A top ten finish for both sets of drivers, as the Enudro season comes to an end. Richo and PD, it’s been a wild ride, thanks for the great season and being awesome co-drivers!

Lowndsey and JDub now have New Zealand square in their sights

    WHAT THEY SAID:

JAMIE WHINCUP / PAUL DUMBRELL (VF Holden Commodore, Car #1)
    Qualifying: 4th (Fastest Lap – 1:10.9316) *Whincup
    Race Two: 7th
    Championship: 8th (1792)

    Jamie Whincup:
“P7 that’s the best result for us during this year’s enduro season. It’s been pretty disappointing, but we’ve been trying hard. We did absolutely everything we could today, but I just didn’t have the pace. I think we maximised what we had and I’m pretty proud of everyone in the team.”

    Paul Dumbrell:
“We paced well on the hard tyres however being the second car in during the pit stops double stacking is always a risk. We’ve got a bit of work to do on soft tyre pace. It’s been a tough year for the entire team. Lowndesy still got some points this weekend and is a bit closer to Frosty which is the main thing.”

CRAIG LOWNDES / STEVEN RICHARDS (VF Holden Commodore, Car #888)
    Qualifying: 2nd (Fastest Lap – 1:10.8626) *Lowndes
    Race Two: 4th
    Championship: 2nd (2341 points)

    Craig Lowndes:
“The car today was good I think at the beginning of the race the car felt nice. Richo did a fantastic job just to look after it and he had a ripper start. Of course when you’re at the front you can maintain that all. Whether we played the right card with the safety car at the end I’m not sure, but we’ll go away and analyse it. It’s a credit to the team to have a third and a fourth out of these two races. It’s not been a bad weekend. All in all we closed that point gap back down to Frosty. That was the main objective this weekend. We move on to New Zealand now and I’m really looking forward to it.”

    Steven Richards:
“A couple of guys rolled the dice today and it’s paid off. You have to take your hat off to them they took a gamble and it worked. The weekend overall was great, we’ve closed in a significant amount of points for Craig in terms of the championship. Obviously I’m disappointed in the way it’s turned out today, but that’s the way it goes.”
