As they say, there’s no rest for the wicked, and that seems to include Red Bull Racing Australia. That said, who better to rope in for the team’s second test day of the year than Warren Luff?

The fantastic group of dedicated fans who turned up to watch the action were almost treated to a Red Bull Racing Australia full house when the No.888 Holden co-driver came to Queensland Raceway for a play in the new VF Commodore. The CEO, a.k.a. Paul Dumbrell, tried to swap office chair for race seat, but his in-tray got the better of him.

“I really enjoyed being in the new car,” said Luffy. “You definitely notice that there are a lot of improvements and I think it’s a much easier car to drive. The boys have been working hard to make the car competitive this year and I can’t wait to have another steer again.”

Since his podium finish alongside Craig Lowndes at the Bathurst 1000, the 36-year-old has kept his racing head on and his doughnutting skills sharp, competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup series and fulfilling his usual role as Movie World’s resident stunt driver.

“The car’s a lot closer in driving style to the Porsche that I’m racing this year. You can definitely carry a bit more speed into the corner and load up the front tyre a lot easier without it costing you on the corner exit. For me, it’s more suited to my driving style.”

There’s still a long way to go before the co-drivers come into play, but time flies when you’re having fun, and Luffy most certainly is so far this year.

“The team will continue the evolution of the car [before the enduro season] and keep learning and improving it. Obviously since the start of the year they’ve learnt a hell of a lot about this car and everyone’s in the same boat, learning what the car does and doesn’t like and learning what’s going to make it the best possible race car. Come Sandown and Bathurst we’re going to be in the best position and hopefully have the quickest car out there.”

The three Red Bull Holdens all enjoyed a good day’s testing, the team continuing to learn what makes each car tick, working on different set-ups and trying to hit that winning formula ahead of Tasmania (V8 Supercars) and Perth (Dunlop Series).
