Lowndesy: “Ready to punch it out”

The results didn’t stack up on paper today for Red Bull Racing Australia, but Jamie and Craig are confident that they can pull together the necessary setup overnight to get them to the top of the timesheets tomorrow at the Ipswich 400.

Having returned from racing in the Spa 24 Hours just two days ago, the Lowndesy didn’t have the tyres in the bank to be competitive in the first of today’s three practice sessions, but came back by the end of the day to finish 11th.

“Coming right off the back of the Total 24 Hours of Spa I found myself having to remind myself what car I was in but I’m definitely happy to be back on home soil in a V8 Supercar,” he laughed.

“We made a number of adjustments today and the car is reasonable but we have to make a bit more progress overnight. We’re fortunate that we know this track like the back of our hand and we know the conditions are constantly changing from day to day so I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep so we’re ready to punch it out again tomorrow.”

Meanwhile JDub closed the day with a top 10 result, finishing eighth. After a productive test day at Queensland Raceway last week, the No.1 Holden team went down varying routes with today’s setup, but Jamie remains confident that they’ll finetune the car overnight.

“We had a good practice day with a fairly radical set up and we went too far in the wrong direction at the start of the day. We managed to clean it up for the third practice session which was much more encouraging.

“I’ve got faith that we’re in the right area, now we just have to fine tune the car overnight for the first race tomorrow.”

Tune into qualifying tomorrow at 11.25am local time, with the first of the day’s two 100km races kicking off at 2.25pm.
