Tyrepower Tasmania 400 Fast Facts

  • A total of 70 ATCC/V8 Supercar races across 42 events have been held at Symmons Plains since 1969. Sandown is the only venue to have hosted more.
  • The Triple Eight squad hasn’t had a bad run at the Tasmania circuit, clocking up four pole positions and nine race wins. Three more will bring us level with HRT for most wins there.
  • We may be running second in the number of team race wins, but Jamie sits top of the leader board for individual wins at Symmons Plains with eight to his name. Craig is snapping at his heels though with six.
  • Since the start of his ATCC/V8 Supercars career, Lowndesy has missed the event twice – first in 1997 due to racing overseas, and second in 1999 as he was recovering from knee surgery in the wake of the infamous Calder Park roll over.
  • V8 Supercars didn’t grace Symmons Plains with their presence for four years, from 2000 to 2003. But don’t worry, we’ve been back in full force for a decade now!

What the drivers have to say

Lowndesy: “The AGP again showed that we have a great car this year, so we’re feeling pretty confident heading into Tassie.

“It’s obviously a really strong field this year though, as always, so we’ll have to make sure we qualify well at Symmons Plains.

“We’ve had a pretty good run in qualifying so far this year. It’s something JJ and I have been working on, so hopefully we can continue that and get another set of good results in the bag this weekend and hang onto that championship lead.”

J-Dub: “After a tough start to the season I’m looking to turning things around at Symmons Plains this weekend. We feel we’ve showed good pace but have struggled to put it all together on the day.

“As we mention every year, that crazy tight hairpin is extremely important to get right as it leads onto a very long back straight.

“Fingers crossed Tassie turns on the weather and we get plenty of local supporters come out as its always better racing in front of a good crowd.

“With the short turn around to Winton, it’s really important to keep the car straight while trying to score as many points as you can.”
